You don’t need millions to play golf – Obaleye

The chairman, Local Organising Committee for the Senator Emma Anosike Captain’s Inaugural tournament, Dr Olabanjo Obaleye has urged Nigerians to take up more interests in golf as it is not an elitist game as erroneously believed.

Speaking during a press conference today at IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, Obaleye said people use golf to correct some of their psychological problems.

We have seen how people have used the game of golf to correct some of their psychological problem. Many people have a wrong opinion that golf is an elitist game but when you see people play, you will know that you don’t need to be a millionaire to be a golfer.

Obaleye revealed that the new executive of the club are using the tournament to kick start their tenure which began in April.

“The inaugural tournament of the new executive led by Senator Emma Anosike has made provision for 350 golfers and about 50 lawn tennis players. We have lot of trophies and consolation prices as well.

“First and foremost, the executive tenure of IBB Golf Club is yearly, from April to April. The new exco were elected this year and this is their first event to introduce them to the world, that this new exco means business and they are going to bring the various opportunities golfing event offers that is bigger than what we have been experiencing before,” he said.

He further stressed that the tournament is being organized to comply with the COVID-19 protocols set by the government as golf is one of the sporting events that will not violate the protocols.

The tournament starts today with the pro tournament with handicap 19-36 taking place on Friday while handicap 0 -18 with guests and sponsor to hold on Saturday which is the Grand Finale.
