Varane heads late winner for Man Utd against Wolves

In a stroke of luck, Raphael Varane emerged as the hero for Manchester United, securing a crucial victory against Wolves at Old Trafford with a late winner in the 76th minute.

Throughout the match, Erik ten Hag’s team struggled to create significant scoring opportunities. However, it was Bruno Fernandes who broke the deadlock with a brilliant pass, finding Aaron Wan-Bissaka inside the box.

Wan-Bissaka skillfully lifted the bouncing ball to the edge of the six-yard box, where Varane showcased his aerial prowess, outjumping Nelson Semedo to head the ball into the net.

The result was tough on Wolves, who put on an impressive performance under the guidance of their new manager, Gary O’Neil. O’Neil’s protests for a late penalty went unanswered as United held on to their fortunate victory.

In a tense finale, United’s debutant goalkeeper Andre Onana escaped punishment for a collision with Sasa Kalajdzic, as he charged into the Wolves striker without making contact with the ball.

Wolves had their chances too, with Matheus Cunha missing a golden opportunity when Pablo Sarabia’s low cross found him unmarked near the far post.

Cunha’s shot struck the outside of the post. Pedro Neto also had a chance, firing straight at Onana, while Fabio Silva saw two goal-bound efforts saved as Wolves pushed for an equalizer.

It was a thrilling encounter with Varane’s decisive goal ultimately securing the victory for Manchester United.
