Ex Barcelona coach, Valverde three others for Super Eagles job

Valverde, Blanc, Cocu or Peseiro may be named Super Eagles coach

The Technical and Development Sub-Committee led by Ahmed ‘Fresh’ Yusuf on Friday submitted have submitted the names of former Barcelona coach, Ernesto Valverde, former France coach, Laurent Blanc, former Derby County coach, Philip Cocu and Jose Peseiro as Super Eagles’ potential coaches.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Friday received the list on Friday from the committee after meeting up with the 5-day mandate.

It will be recalled after the erstwhile technical crew of the Super Eagles led by Augustine Eguavoen was disbanded, the NFF mandated the Committee to make recommendations to the Executive Committee on coaching crews for the Super Eagles, CHAN team, U20 Boys (Flying Eagles) and U17 Boys (Golden Eaglets

The World Cup-winning coach of France in 1998, Laurent Blanc, is top on the list of four coaches recommended to the board of the Nigeria Football Federation as the next manager of the Super Eagles.

Blanc is one of the foreign football coaches who applied for the Eagles job which has been vacant after the NFF disbanded the technical crew.

Apart of being the Manager of France twice, Blanc also coached Bordeaux and Paris Saint-German in the French top-flight league.

Ernesto Valverde was a former Barcelona coach who also managed Valencia, Olympiacos, Espanyol and Athletico Bilbao while Cocu was an assistant manager with Holland between 2008 and 2012 and is also a former coach of PSV, Fernabache and Derby County.

Peseiro, a former coach of Saudi Arabia and Venezuela is also a former manager of Sporting CP, Braga, Al Ahly, Al Hital and an assistant coach in Real Madrid.

It was gathered that the NFF is expected to pick Gernot Rohr’s successor from any of the four coaches this week as well the Nigerians that will work with him.
