2021 Afrobasket: Uganda send Nigeria out of Rwanda

… they were not prepared – Skambo

The senior male national team D’Tigers have crashed out of the 2021 Afrobasket currently taking place in Kigali, Rwanda after losing 68-80 to Uganda earlier today.

They had defeated Mali in the first game 81-73 and defeating Kenya 71-55 in the second game. However, lost the third game to Ivory Coast 68-77 fail to secure Group C’s automatic quarter-final ticket.

They, however, had a second chance of qualification for the quarter-finals with the clash against the Ugandans which they failed to take and has led to their exit from the tournament.

Meanwhile, a former Nigerian International, Pastor Skambo Morrison has passed a scathing judgement on the performances of D’Tigers.

In a chat with the Kaduna State basketball association chairman, the team did not prepare well for the tournament.

“We are not fully prepared for this year’s Afrobasket. Maybe we will win the next edition when we put our house in order. There is something about goodwill that comes out from every Nigerian to the team representing the country,” he said.

He further revealed the crisis which has bedevilled that Nigeria National Basketball Federation (NBBF) can only be resolved through credible elections.

“Only credible elections filled with fairness can put an end to the crisis in Nigerian basketball,” he concluded.

It will be noted that for close to four years, the NBBF has been engulfed in leadership crisis as two administrators, Engineer Musa Kida and Tijani Umar battle tussle for leadership of the sport federation.

Unfortunately, the same crisis has played a negative role in the suspension of the men’s Premier basketball league in Nigeria.
