Two players have been chosen as the final candidates to succeed Sergio Busquets as one of Barcelona’s four captains.
In the club’s four-man captaincy system, Robert Lewandowski and Ronald Araujo are apparently contending for the armband after Barcelona confirmed that Sergio Busquets will be departing the team at the conclusion of the season.
In chronological order, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto, Jordi Alba, and Marc Andre Ter Stegen are the current four members of the Blaugrana’s captaincy quartet.
Roberto is anticipated to succeed Busquets as the club’s inaugural captain, opening up a position for a replacement. Additionally, Jordi Alba’s future at the club is uncertain, which would indicate that there are two openings.
Should Alba remain, a vote will take place between Araujo and Lewandowski, who have both received the green light for the position from Xavi Hernandez. However, an exit for the former Valencia man would see both the centre-back and striker join Ter Stegen and Roberto in a new quartet, according to fcbarca.com.
As we reported earlier, LaLiga leaders FC Barcelona have confirmed that they will say goodbye to club captain Sergio Busquets at the end of this season.
Barcelona took to their social media page to post an emotional video to confirm the exit with the caption “A Barca legend says goodbye,” on Tuesday morning.
