The FCT’s Director of Sport, Luka Istifanus, is optimistic that Team FCT will outperform earlier iterations at the current 2022 National Sports Festival in Asaba, thesportsbay.com reports.
Speaking with our correspondent, Istifanus predicted that the FCT would win at least 12 gold medals given their nine previous victories.
“Honestly speaking before we left Abuja last week Tuesday, I told my principals that nothing less than 12 gold medals will be delivered to the FCT Family.
“I assured them that the performance of Team FCT will outshine the Edo 2020 edition and presently FCT have 9 gold medals, six silver medals and we bronze medals. I am very optimistic that Team FCT will perform better than Edo 2020.
“Our stronghold event will start very soon. FCT is very strong in Karate. Karate gave us three gold medals last edition and karate athletes just arrived from South Africa after representing the country at the Africa Karate Championship.
“I cannot say specifically the position of Team FCT on the table because most of our medals have not been reflected on the medals table, but I know we will win more medals before the end of the festival,” he said.
He however decried the late reflection of results on the medals table.
“Of course, we have fears that our medals have not reflected on the medals table. We had a meeting at the State House where the secretary of MOC, Peter Nelson, told us that there is no need to entertain fears,” he concluded.
