Super Eagles' Camp to open on Wednesday for AFCON 2023 Qualifiers

The Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior male football team, are getting ready to kick off their preparations for the final group game of the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.

The game against Sao Tome and Principe will take place next weekend at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The team is entering this match with a great deal of confidence after their astounding 10-0 victory in the first leg at the 12th of July Stadium in Sao Tome.

Head coach Jose Peseiro has recently released the list of players invited for the game, which includes three new additions: Gift Orban, Victor Boniface, and Tournariga. The team camp is set to open in Uyo on Wednesday, and all the invited players are expected to be present for the preparation sessions.

In the AFCON qualifying Group A, Nigeria has already secured an impressive 12 points from their first five matches, winning four games and suffering only one loss to Guinea Bissau in Abuja. On the other hand, Sao Tome has no chance of qualifying for the tournament.

Leading the goal-scoring charts in the qualifying series is Victor Osimhen, who has netted seven goals so far. He currently holds a two-goal lead over Senegal’s Sadio Mane.

If Osimhen manages to find the back of the net against Sao Tome and Principe, he could solidify his position as the top scorer and enhance his chances of winning the prestigious African Player of the Year award.

With their sights set on victory, the Super Eagles are ready to soar and make a strong statement in the upcoming AFCON tournament.

Meanwhile, German Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen have congratulated their star striker Victor Boniface on his call-up to the Super Eagles.

While congratulating him on the club’s verified Twitter page yesterday, Bayern Leverkusen says it’s a well-deserved call-up for the Nigerian striker.

Boniface who is part of the 23 players called up for the final AFCON qualifier has netted five goals in just four appearances since he joined Bayern Leverkusen in the summer.
