Sports ministry declare Ubah Anambra FA chairman

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports has declared Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah as the Chairman of Anambra State Football Association.

The Ministry made this known in a statement titled “Resolution of the Ministerial Meeting on the Anambra State Football Association”.

It will be recalled that the association has been enmeshed in leadership crisis with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) declaring the election as “a charade of very low grade”

The statement dated 15th October 2020 and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Gabriel Aduda, reviewed facts presented by various camps involved and found no error in the declaration of Senator Ubah as the winner of the virtual election conducted by the Anambra State Football Association.

The Ministry further advised the NFF to uphold the result of the election and channel grievances (if any) to the electoral committee in line with the NFF statute and extant laws while revealing that elections into states football association is an exclusive right of the congress of the state football associations in accordance with Article 20 of the NFF statutes.

The meeting further observed that when the Anambra State FA was stopped from conducting the election physically while conducting a virtual election that had 98% of congress members in attendance and won by Ubah.

Last week, Ubah paid a visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare where he accused Anambra state of interfering in football matters which is against the rules.

He said he is being hunted because of his desire to contest the Anambra State governorship elections in 2021.

“They fighting me simply because I want to contest for governor next year. The state has not given the FA one naira in the last six years,” he said then.
