NPFL21: Rivers Utd stun Pillars as Rangers lose to Lobi

Rivers United’s bid to qualify for CAF competition next season received a major boost when they defeated visiting Kano Pillars by 2-0 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt during the Match Day 26 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) games played today.

Striker Sunday Adetunji opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the game while Paul Acquah made it 2 -0 in the 49th minute.

In Nnewi, FC IfeanyiUbah defeated Kwara United 2-1. Ekene Awazie scored a penalty in the 14th minute with Jude Steven making it 1-1 for the visitors. In the 86th minute, Awazie struck again as his goal pushed down the title contenders down to 5th position on the log.

At the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, Lobi Stars secured their 12th win of the season with an emphatic 1-0 victory over Enugu Rangers. Martin Ossy 22nd goal was enough for the 2-time NPFL champions to condemn the Flying Antelopes to their 8th loss of the campaign.

At the Akure Township Stadium, Akure, Sunshine Stars defeated Dakkada FC by a lone goal scored in the 45th minute while Jigawa Golden Stars failed to shine over Wikki Tourists as the game ended 1-1 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna.

Warri Wolves of swimming out of the relegation waters proved abortive as they lost 3-1 to Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium. Silas Nwankwo proved his worth again as he scored 2 goals in the space of 3 minutes while Wolves’ Sunday Williams scored his side’s only goal in the 69th minute.

#NPFL19: Bendel Insurance win second league game

In Jos, 2020 champions, Plateau United condemned Katsina Utd to their 14th league loss with a 2-0 victory while Enyimba defeated Adamawa United by 2-1 at the Enyimba International Stadium.

Ever reliable Victor Mbaoma opened the scoring in the 29th minute for the Aba Warriors while Anayor Ogbonna made it 1-1 for relegation bound Adamawa Utd. Farouk Mohammed secured all three points for the host in the 76th minute.

Following these results, Kano Pillars remain top of the table with 48 points despite the loss but may lose the top spot to Akwa United who are on 46 points if they win their game with Heartland FC tomororw at the Nest of Champions, Uyo.

Nasarawa Utd climbed up the ladder to clinch 3rd position with a better win ratio than Rivers United as both teams are on 45 points each.

In the same vein, Warri Wolves, IfeanyiUbah, Sunshne Stars and Adamawa Utd who are battling relegation are on 27, 25, 24, 16 points respectively.
