NPFL: Remo Stars reclaim top spot as Sunshine Stars stun Pillars

Remo Stars have again shown their intent of winning the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League after defeating former champions, Plateau United by a lone goal on matchday 5 yesterday.

Samuel Anakwe’s 56th minute was enough for the Remo Stars to reclaim the top position they lost briefly to Rivers United.

The Blue-Sky as they are famously called are yet to lose a game alongside Rivers United while winning three and drawing two games so far.

In the same vein, Kano Pillars have continued their woeful performances so far in this season as they have gone down to the 20th position after losing 3-0 to Sunshine Stars.

The Mai Gida side have only a game so far while losing three to earn just four points from 5 games.

In other games, Dakkada FC returned to winning ways to defeat Nasarawa United 2-I while Enyimba fought hard to shoot down 3SC of Ibadan.

In Imo, Heartland FC secured a slim 1-0 victory over Wikki Tourist with Nwaodu Chukwudi scoring from the spot in the 37th minute while Katsina United defeated visiting Gombe United 2-1.

Kwara United were unable to secure all maximum points as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Enugu Rangers while Lobi Stars secured their second win of the season after defeating defending champions 1-0.

Azeez Balogun abd Oladayo Alabi’s goals gave MFC FC a second league win by handing Abia Warriors a second league defeat, though Godwin Obaje who scored the fastest goal this season scored a consolation goal in the 84th minute.

At the end of this round, Remo Stars top the table with 11 points while Rivers United are second with 9 points and Enyimba are third also with 9 points.

Abia Warriors, Shooting Stars, Niger Tornadoes and Kano Pillars are 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th respectively on the table.
