Heavy rainfall stops Abia Warriors vs Enyimba league clash

The Nigeria Professional Football League MatchDay 21 rescheduled fixture between Abia Warriors and Enyimba will continue tomorrow (Thursday) after it was suspended due to the heavy rainfall at the Okigwe Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The game which had begun under rainy conditions saw the home side dominating early proceedings.

In the 8th minute, Warriors’ Daniel Wotlai attempt at goal was saved by Enyimba and Super Eagles goal keeper, John Noble.

Two minutes later, Wotlai who was the brightest spark in Warriors’ attack dribbled past two Enyimba players close to the box to pass to an unmarked Utibe Arit, who failed to score after a weak shot at goal.

The Umuahia warlords were made to pay for the misses when two minutes later, the away side took the lead when Victor Mbaoma scored from Austin Oladapo’s assist.

However, on the 23rd minute, the match official stopped and decided the game could not continue due to soggy conditions in Okigwe and will continue at the same venue by 8am tomorrow.

Since the beginning of the current campaign, Abia Warriors have largely played their home games behind closed doors.

The reversed fixture ended 1- 0 in favor of Enyimba at the Enyimba Township Stadium in Aba in the club’s first league match of the current 2020/2021 Nigeria professional football league season.
