Plateau United have defeated Heartland FC 3-0 to secure their first league victory in the ongoing 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Desirous of ending the winless streak, Mohammed Zulkifisu scored his side’s first goal of the season in all competitions in the 18th minute. This goal is the first goal in 378 minutes of action for the Jos-based side.
In the 26th minute, Heartland had their first real attack but the shot from Chidera Eze was blocked.
In the 40th minute, Zulkifisu nearly doubled the lead but Heartland goalkeeper, Chijioke Ejiogu, popularly known as Arugo Monkey was at hand to stop the left-footed ferocious long-range shot.
At the restart of the second half, the hosts appeared hungry for more goals and were duly rewarded for their efforts when in the 55th minute, Amos Gyang from the spot sent Arugo Monkey to pick the ball again from his net.
In the 60th minute, Plateau United put the game to bed as Akila Jesse went on a solo run to score the third goal of the game. He was however carded by the referee for taking off his jersey in celebration.
With the three points in the bag and the confidence coming back, the hosts began to play the champagne football they are known with and again almost scored more goals when Wasiu Jimoh and Uche Onoasanyo both missed gilt-edged chances as the game ended 3-0.
In the same vein, Lobi Stars scored what looks at the moment the fastest goal of the season when Ossy Martins scored with his first touch in the very first minute of the game against Warri Wolves.
As the game wore on, Lobi search for that all-important goal but it was elusive in the first half. However, the Benue based side got their second goal of the game from a well-taken free-kick by Mathias Samuel of Lobi Stars goes straight into the top corner for the second goal of the evening.
In the dying minutes of the game, Lobi’s Chinose Okoronkwo got the third goal to condemn Warri Wolves to their second loss of the season.
Meanwhile in other matches played, Katsina Utd defeated Adamawa Utd 2-0 while Nasarawa Utd and Kano Pillars played out a 1-1 draw.
Enyimba defeated Wikki Tourist by a lone goal while Rivers Utd took the maximum points from Kwara Utd with a 3-0 victory to top the table with 9 points.
Jigawa Golden Start lost 1-0 at home to visiting Enugu Rangers while MFM, Dakkada FC defeated Sunshine Stars, IfeanyiUbah FC respectively by the same goal margin.
