Plateau United thrash El-Kanemi Warriors

Plateau United on Wednesday defeated visiting El-Kanemi Warriors 5-0 at the New Jos stadium in the Match Day 8 of the 2022/23 abridged Nigeria Professional Football League.

The 2017 champions got to a dream start when Sunday Anthony opened the scoring in the 2nd minute and 17 minutes later, Jackson Eru made it 2-0.

That goal signalled it was going to be a harvest of goals as the home side got the third goal in the 27th minute through Ibrahim Mustapha who scored with his trademark header and later apologized to the Warriors who he once played for.

At the restart of the second half, the Peace Boys were still thirsty for more goals despite leading 3-0. They were duly rewarded with the fourth goal in the 63rd minute when Michael Tochukwu scored from the spot and two minutes into the added time, Uche Onwuasanya put the icing on the cake to score the fifth goal as the game ended 5-0.

Bendel Insurance 1-0 Nasarawa United

In the other games, Bendel Insurance remain the only team in the league yet to lose as they defeated Nasarawa United 1-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.

The Solid Miners who earned their first league win over the weekend sought to make it a second win but the Benin Arsenal broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute when Ebuka Akobundu drove in with a ball to the edge of the box before releasing a rocket to break the wall of a helpless Jerry Isaac.

It was a sixth win for Bendel Insurance and they sit gallantly at the top of Group A to become the first team in the league to hit 20 points this season.

Plateau United 5-0 El Kanemi Warriors

The New Jos Stadium bore witness to Plateau United putting five goals past struggling El Kanemi Warriors on Wednesday, with Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side extending their unbeaten run to four matches.

The scoring started as early as the second minute when former El Kanemi man Ibrahim Yuga converted Sunday Anthony’s assist. Jackson Eru then made it two, 17 minutes later, before Ibrahim Mustapha got the team’s third shortly before the half-hour.

The second half then saw the duo of Tochukwu Michael and Uche Onwuasanya add to the tally to give the Jos club the biggest win of the season so far, enough to send Plateau United into playoff qualification places.
