Kenneth Omeruo has openly voiced his dissatisfaction with the current state of uncertainty surrounding the coaching position of the Super Eagles ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against São Tomé and Príncipe in September.
The position, technically speaking, is currently vacant due to the expiration of the contract of Nigeria’s former head coach, Jose Peseiro, last month.
However, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is yet to make a decision on whether to renew the contract of the Portuguese tactician or seek a permanent replacement.
In the meantime, there have been suggestions that the NFF may appoint an interim coach to take charge of the Super Eagles’ upcoming tie.
Omeruo, like many others, has expressed his discontent with this situation, emphasizing the need for a swift resolution for the benefit and stability of the team.
“When it comes to talent, Nigeria have amazing players,” Omeruo told Arise TV.
“Even those that are on the bench in the national team go to their club sides and bang in goals week in, week out.
“We need to have a stable technical crew. A technical crew will take us to where we are supposed to be and give us exactly what we get in Europe.
“We do not even know who will be the coach in the next game. It is crazy, and it has to be fixed.”
The Kasimpasa centre-back featured in Nigeria’s 3-2 win in the last qualification fixture against Sierra Leone in June.
Omeruo has been involved in 3 of the 5 games played so far by the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification series.
Nigeria has already booked a spot in the competition slated for next year but will play their final match in the qualifiers in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.
Super Eagles currently sit top of Group by two points and will be looking to end the qualifiers on a high with a comfortable win at home.
