Nwagua’s lone strike condemns Lobi Stars to 5th straight NPFL loss

Nyima Nwagua’s 15-minute strike was enough for Rivers United to seal all three points against Lobi Stars in the concluding round of Match Day 21 of the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League season.

The Port Harcourt based club who solidified their grip on the log in the process condemned Lobi Stars to the 11th loss of the season who are swimming in relegation waters.

Lobi Stars have now lost five games in a row but still, maintain a better head-to-head record over Rivers United.

The Ortom Boys as they are called have won 4 games out of 10 since 2016 while The Pride of Rivers have won 3 games.

In the other games of the day, Wikki Tourists defeated visiting Sunshine Stars by a lone goal.

Wikki were in dreamland and went ahead through Abubakar Aliyu’s spot-kick goal in the 3rd minute of the game and that was enough to get all maximum points to move to 6th position on 30 points. Sunshine Stars dropped to 7th position with 29 points.

In the last game, Plateau United defeated visiting Niger Tornadoes by another 1-0 scoreline.

It was a tough game as both sides refused to concede while attempting to score but at the death, Andrew Ikefe of all people ventured forward from the role at the back to give the home side the lead.

He expertly connected Isah Aliyu’s pass to prod the ball home to give the 2017 champions all points.

The Peace Boys as they are called maintain their second position with 44 points while Niger Tornadoes are 16th with 23 points.
