NPFL Roundup: Akwa United beat Remo Stars as 3SC floor Pillars

Akwa United defeated Remo Stars 3-2 in a thrilling contest at the Eket Township Stadium on Sunday to record their second win of the ongoing 2023/23 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

Sikiru Alimi opened the scoring for Remo Stars in the 15th minute. It was Alimi’s eighth goal of the campaign. However, defensive midfielder Dare Ojo equalised for the hosts eight minutes later.

Uche Collins gave Akwa United the lead for the first time in the game in 26 minutes while Rilwan Sadiq doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute. The visitors reduced the deficit through Aniekeme Okon 12 minutes from time.

Enyimba emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Lobi Stars in Uyo. Despite the match looking like it would end in a goalless draw, Alalibo Somiari Orinate stepped up in the 88th minute and secured the winning goal, leaving the visiting team disappointed and dropping them to second place on the table.

At the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, Shooting Stars claimed a 1-0 victory against Kano Pillars. Kareem Ayinde netted the winning goal four minutes before the hour mark.

Seven-time champions Rangers were held to a 0-0 draw by Katsina United while the NPFL new boys Sporting Lagos rallied to hold Heartland to a 1-1 draw at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

Chinedu Ike gave the visitors the lead 15 minutes from time.The home team levelled through Jonathan Alukwu deep into stoppage time with Heartland still without a win in the NPFL this season.

Former champions Rivers United defeated Abia Warriors 2-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt. Alex Oyowah gave Rivers United the lead from the spot six minutes before the break.

Abia Warriors defender Ifeanyi Anaemena conceded an own goal to double Rivers United’s lead eight minutes from time. Anaemena reduced the deficit for his on 86 minutes.

Umar Abba scored the winning goal on 13 minutes as Gombe United defeated Niger Niger Tornadoes 1-0.
