Why Nigerian football is not developing – FCT FA boss

.. tasks NFF on transparency in appointment of coaches

The Chairman, Federal Capital Territory Football Association, FCT FA, Alhaji Abba Mohammed Mouktar has said football is not developing in Nigeria because of the lack of a standardized blueprint for the game, the reports.

Mouktar, who spoke while reacting to questions during a virtual personality interview segment on FCT Football Update said the present state of football in the country is bad and is urging every football stakeholder to do more to get it to an enviable position it should be.

The FCT FA boss said the major problem of football development in the country is the non-availability of a standardized blueprint of lay down steps of developmental steps of the game in the country.

“As long as we don’t have that, football cannot grow in the country. We need to see football as an integral part of the social development, and a contributor to the Gross National Development Plan (GDP).

“It’s just because of this that we have refused to grow. We need to change our mindset and include sports generally in the plan for the National Development Plan 2050. Sports must be in the forefront, and must take its rightful place in the country” he said.

The FCT FA chair further tasked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in ensuring that transparency and fairness are applied in the appointment of national team coaches.

He said the selection must be open and transparent to ensure that only the best Coaches are selected to handle the various National teams especially the age-grade teams.

“Let the NFF give the job to the best coaches especially at the age-grade levels. That’s the foundation of the future Super Eagles. We must take that very seriously”.

Continuing, he said, “I am not concerned that the national teams do not have the technical crews, all I am more concerned is that the selection process should be very transparent and allow the best-qualified coaches get the jobs. So that the foundation of the Super Eagles must grow from there.”

The FCT FA boss said “The youth teams, we must set out a target for them, and we must take care of them properly because they’re the future of tomorrow, that will come into the Super Eagles. So, I am not worried because we have a lot of good coaches in Nigeria that are qualified to handle the national team jobs but I want the process to be opened and everyone is carried along” he said.
