The Nigeria Wrestling Federation, in conjunction with the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) have commenced a level 3 IOC coaching course for the coaches and referees of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) to help develop the sport in the country.
According to a statement made available by the Secretary General of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Alh. Mohammed Maigidansanma, the training which commenced in Yanegoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on October 15th, will last till October 21st, 2023.
The Wrestling Federation noted that the initiative is to enhance the coaching and mentoring skills of Nigeria Wrestling Federation coaches and teams, ensuring they achieve their maximum potential performance in terms of building, equipping, and applications of international guidelines and aiding Nigerian wrestlers in reaching their peak in the game.
The statement also clarifies that the course will intensively combine high-level technical skills, tactical and theoretical work and pedagogical principles, as well as exposure to current international practices and attitudes in a training context.
It will feature internationally approved facilitators, with coaches from various states across Nigeria participating in the week-long training course.
The Wrestling Federation extends its gratitude to the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) for lending their support to help develop the growing number of the federation technical officials.
