Ndifreke Effiong returns to Akwa Utd after loan deal with Ahly Benghazi expired

Nigerian striker Ndifreke Effiong has returned to Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Akwa United Fc after his four-month loan deal with Libyan side Al Ahly Benghazi expired.

The 2016 Olympic bronze medalist scored six goals in 9 appearances for the Libyan side after leaving the NPFL champions during the just-concluded season break.

After a bright start to the NPFL season, scoring 8 goals, joint top scorer with Sunshine Stars talisman Sadiq Yussuf, before joining the Lybian club in an undisclosed fee.

It was initially reported that the 26-year-old striker signed a three- and half-year deal with the Libyan side.

Prior to his departure, he had played for the ‘Promise Keepers’ from 2019 to 2021 and had scored 17 goals in 31 games.

He has represented Nigeria at the 2015 African Games, 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations and the 2016 Summer Olympics. He made his debut for the Nigeria national football team on 26 March 2019 in a friendly against Egypt, as a 90th-minute substitute for Shehu Abdullahi.

In the same vein, Wasiu Alalade has completed his transfer to the league champions Akwa United from Kwara United in an undisclosed fee.

Alalade becomes the latest addition to the squad in the current and he’s expected to bring his wealth of experience to the side.
