
The Remo Stars coach, Gbenga Ogunbote has revealed that his set target for the club is to remain in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Sky Blue had begun this ongoing season undefeated in 11 matches, recording 6 wins and five draws before losing their first game to Gombe United by a lone goal. consecutive defeats at home and in Aba saw them drop from the top three spots and have now lost five games so far.
With the club flying high and topping the table in the early stages of the week, the Ogun based club now occupies the fifth position with 29 points earned from 18 games.
“The set target is to make sure that Remo Stars sustain our premiership status.
“We still have 20 games to go to determine who wins the league, as nobody can say he has won the league at this point but our primary target is to remain in the league any other achievement is a bonus,” he said.
According to a statement signed by the club’s media manager, Oladimeji Oshode when he was apoointed, Ogunbote said he is proud and happy to have joined Remo Stars FC, and currently hoping to take the club to higher levels.
“I am very proud and happy to have joined Remo Stars, I hope to help the team to the level at which the club wants to ascertain.
“We have an ambition this season, before now the club has decided to maintain their stay in the NPFL which is my desire too but I will be so grateful if we go on to win the league or probably get a slot in any of the CAF competitions,” he said then.
Ogunbote fondly known as ‘The Oracle’ has been into coaching for decades has formerly coached fellow southwest clubs like Gateway United, Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC and Sunshine Stars of Akure.
He was also in charge of former League Champions, Rangers International when the Flying Antelopes came from three goals down to beat Kano Pillars to the AITEO Cup crown in 2018.
He will look to return his side to winning ways when they host Kwara United next.
