Lagos based MFM FC have climbed up to 10th position on the Nigeria Professional Football League table following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Wikki Tourist on Monday morning.
The Olukoya Boys had their match initially scheduled for Sunday evening moved to Monday morning due to heavy downpour which left the Soccer Temple stadium soaked and unplayable.
In the 7th minute, Wikki Tourist had their first chance at goal but Ismail Sale’s long range shot went wide.
Six minutes later, Wikki goal keeper, Ibrahim Pius made a double save, with the first coming from Oladayo Alabi who stung his palms with a ferocious strike and saving the follow-up from Akanni Elijah.
Efforts from both teams to open the scoring proved abortive as the first half ended 0-0.
At the restart of the second half, MFM thought they had gotten a penalty after Roland Precious went down in the box rather, the referee called for a goal kick.
In the 56th minute, the deadlock was finally broken when MFM Captain Kenedinum Nelson scored after Wikki Tourists goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius fumbles a direct freekick.
After the goal, Wikki coach Baba Jibrin made some changes but his lads were unable to prevent the club from securing their 15th loss of the season and are 16th two points above relegation zone.
MFM FC have now kept seven clean sheets in nine games in the second stanza (including a 3-0 walkover victory over FC Ifeanyi Ubah) and are lost only one match since the start of the second stanza.
