The final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday will determine who will win the Golden Boot among Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Julian Alvarez.
Currently, Messi and Mbappe are on 5 goals apiece while Giroud and Alvarez are on 4 goals each.
Other players who could have challenged are already eliminated such as Portugal’s Goncalo Ramos., Spain’s Alvaro Morata, England’s Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka, Ecuador’s Enner Valencia, Brazil’s Richarlison and Netherlands’ Cody Gakpo who had 3 goals each.
The Golden Boot will be awarded to the player who scores the most goals. If two players are equal, the one with the most assists will win it. If two or more players are still equal, the one who has played the fewest minutes will triumph.
If it ends in a tie just as it stands, Messi could be named the winner as he has three assists compared to Mbappe’s two.
Meanwhile, France are the first FIFA World Cup holders to reach the final since Brazil in 1998 and have become the fifth team to win the FIFA World Cup and return to the final in the following edition after Italy (1934-1938), Brazil (1958-1962), Argentina (1986-1990) and Brazil again (1994-1998).
