Martinez 'on brink' of Portugal job

Former Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is set to become the new manager of Portugal.

After Portugal’s World Cup quarterfinal loss to Morocco, Fernando Santos resigned as manager. The Spaniard has been in talks to take over for him.

Martinez also left Belgium after the team’s defeat in Qatar during the group round.

After the World Cup, the manager’s contract expired. He had previously managed Everton and Wigan.

The second-ranked team in the world according to Fifa entering the competition was Belgium, which finished third in 2018.
