Manchester city coach Manuel Pellegrini has refused to rule out a sensational transfer swoop for Barcelona star Lionel Messi – despite Luis Enrique’s claims he’ll be staying for many years to come.
The Argentinian superstar, who missed out on a fifth Ballon d’Or earlier this week, has been touted to move away from the Nou Camp in the near future after rumours of a rift with his manager.
Manchester City and Chelsea were both put on red alert when Messi last week claimed: “I don’t where I will be playing next season.”
And City boss Pellegrini told Spanish radio station Onda Cero this week: “It’s normal we are linked with the best players in the market.
“At times these rumours come out because of personal interests and not from the club but I’m not saying this has happened in this case.”
Messi himself revealed that a transfer away from the Catalan club was unlikely to happen.
