NPFL21: Katsina United hold Plateau United to barren draw

Katsina United have held former champions Plateau United to a goalless draw in the Match Day 6 of the ongoing 2020/21 Nigeria Professional Football League on Saturday.

It will be noted that each of the last three NPFL meetings between Katsina United and Plateau United have ended in 1-0 home wins while
Plateau United are one of five teams yet to score on the road this season.

The game played at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium, Katsina saw the visitors firing a warning shot in the 4th minute of the game when Mohammed Zukifilu fired from way out but was saved by the goalkeeper, Yusuf Mohammed.

In the 37th minute, Plateau United again had another chance to open the scoring when Isah Ndala shot from a distance but Mohammed was at full alert to save the goal-bound shot.

Again in the 41st minute, Mohammed was called into action and again was at hand to calmly claim a Mohammed Zulkifilu’s cross. Three minutes after, Katsina United had their first real chance of the game after Masally glided past his marker but was unable to direct his shot towards the goal.

At the restart of the second half, Plateau made a double change with Abba Umar and Wasiu Jimoh replacing Mohammed Zulkifilu and Akila Jesse respectively.

In the 48th minute, Plateau goalkeeper, Anozie dived at full length to keep out Usman Barau’s attempt at goal and two minutes after, the hosts had another chance through Rasheed Ahmed who controlled Faisal’s pass with his chest but dragged his efforts off target from close range to the anguish of the technical bench.

Both sides continued to fashion out ways to secure the maximum points but were unable to breach each other’s defences as the game ended 0-0.

With this result, Plateau United moved to sixth position with 8 points while Katsina United moved to 13th position with 7 points who now remain unbeaten in four consecutive NPFL matches played on a Saturday

Meanwhile, action continues tomorrow when Abia Warriors take on MFM FC while Dakkada FC host Sunshine Stars.

Enugu Rangers will welcome Lobi Stars to the ‘Cathedral’ while Heartland will battle Akwa United.

In Ilorin, Kwara United will seek to maintain a winning run when they host IfeanyiUbah while Warri Wolves seek to hand Nasarawa United their first league loss.
