
Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova has advanced to the second round of the French Open after overcoming a first-round scare.
Pliskova came back from a set and a break down to beat Tessah Andrianjafitrimo of France 2-6 6-3 6-1.
With a 6-2 6-0 victory over France’s Fiona Ferro, third seed Paula Badosa of Spain advanced to the second round.
Badosa, 24, who broke into the top 10 last year, will play ninth seed Danielle Collins in the following round.
Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria was defeated 6-0 6-4 by the American.
Meanwhile, Latvian former champion Jelena Ostapenko beat Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti 6-1 6-4 to progress, while American Madison Keys came back from a break down in the deciding set to defeat Anna Kalinskaya 6-3 3-6 6-4.
