Junior Lokosa leads Sporting Lagos to victory over fumbling Kano Pillars

Newly promoted Sporting Lagos on Monday defeated Kano Pillars 3-0 in matchday 7 of the 2023/24 season at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.

It will be recalled that game was moved to today due to a concert by gospel singer Dunsin Oyekan.

The Paul Offor’s led side who have been impressive so far in the debut season got off on a perfect note when Junior Lokosa put his side in front in the 12th minute.

The striker refused to celebrate as a sign of respect to his former club to the delight of Kano Pillars fans who gave him a standing ovation with a round of applause.

Lokosa prior to this game had been struggling to impress this season and has managed to score one goal in six appearances this season.

The striker who joined the NPFL newcomers at the start of the season from Remo Stars has been seriously criticised for goal drought. The former NPFL top scorer has now scored three goals for Paul Offor’s side.

In the 28th minute, Jonathan Alukwu made it 2-0 and seven minutes later, Lokosa scored his brace to ensure all three points for Sporting Lagos as Pillars have now lost all their games on the road this season, scoring once and conceding nine goals.

Sporting Lagos have now moved up to sixth position on eleven points while Kano Pillars dropped to tenth position on nine points.

In the second game of the game, Lobi Stars moved to top of the league table after defeating Bayelsa United 2-1 at the Samson Siasia stadium, Yenagoa.

Samuel Tiza Iorwuese had opened the scoring for the visitors in the 30th minute but in the 42nd minute, Robert Mizo equalised as the first half ended 1-1.

Iorwuese was not done as he scored his brace as he scored his sixth goal of the campaign in the 67th minute which was enough for the ‘Pride of Benue’ as the hosts remain rooted in the relegation zone.

Lobi Stars occupy top spot on the log with 14 points from seven games while Bayelsa United remain in 19th position with six points from seven games.
