Jesus nets hat-trick in first Emirates appearance

Arsenal defeated Sevilla 6-0 to win the Emirates Cup thanks to a hat-trick from Gabriel Jesus, who made his Emirates Stadium debut.

The Gunners were up 4-0 against the La Liga team after 19 minutes thanks to two goals from Bukayo Saka.

After an effective counterattack maneuver, Eddie Nketiah completed the victory.

After joining the Gunners for £45 million from Manchester City, Brazilian Jesus had a productive preseason, scoring seven goals.

Saka scored the game’s first goal from the penalty spot after being taken down in the box, and Jesus increased the advantage for the home team by converting Granit Xhaka’s low cross.

Within two minutes, he added a third goal. Before the 20-minute mark, Saka tied him with a well-executed high press goal.

Xhaka went close to a fifth before Jesus grabbed his third from close range. Nketiah completed the scoring a minute from time.

Sevilla only had themselves to blame as they tried to play out from the back, but Arsenal’s expert pressing led to Bono gifting the ball straight to Saka who slotted it home with ease.

The Spanish side, who had the best defence in LaLiga last season, looked shell-shocked and while they did finally manage to stop the flow of relentless Arsenal attacks, they knew they had very little chance of getting back in to this pre-season friendly.

Now it is all eyes on next week Friday night for Arteta, as his side begin the Premier League season with a trip to Crystal Palace.
