16-Year-Old Iyeneobong shines bright at Champion of Champions World Golf Championship

Iyeneobong Essien, a 16-year-old Nigerian golfer, made an amazing record by finishing first runner-up at the Champion of Champions World Golf Championship Invitational in Northern Ireland.

From July 26–28, 2022, the kid competed in the Invitational’s 16–19 age division. At the Lough Erne Resort in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, Iyeneobong competed on the Faldo Course and the Castle Hume Course, two challenging layouts.

Iyene is now ranked first among youth players in Nigeria and has competed across three continents. At age five, she received her first medal, and since then she has added more than 20 to her collection.

She has competed on numerous occasions for Nigeria in competitions held in Africa, Europe, and the US.

In 2019, Iyene was the only teenager among the 177 golfers at the Nigeria Ladies Golf Open Championship where she took 10th place.

She is looking forward to grabbing the first gold medal for golf at the 2022 Summer Youth Olympics which has been postponed to 2026 due to the operational and economical consequences of the postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympics to July 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A number of PGA Tournaments featuring some of the finest golfers in the world have been held on these courses. The second-ranked player in the world, Rory Mcllroy, participated in the just-completed British Open. He was a young golfer who played on the Faldo course.
