AFCON 2021: ‘Injured’ Awaziem trains away from squad

Turkish Alanyaspor defender, Chidozie Awaziem on Monday was unable to train with the Super Eagles squad ahead of the 2021 African Nations Cup in Cameroon at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

The former Leganes player who arrived the team camp on Friday December 31st sat out of the training session on Sunday and Monday as a precaution following minor knock which he hopes to recover from before Nigeria first match against Egypt.

He was seen training alone with the Super Eagles physiotherapist in a bid to bring him up to speed.

Meanwhile, all other 13 players of Austine Eguavoen’s squad took part in the session as they hope to have the rest invited players in camp before leaving for Cameroon on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Awaziem however had a light training at the side of the Moshood Abiola Stadium pitch monitored by one of the technical crew of the Super Eagles.

However, the interim coach of Nigeria, Austine Eguavoen is hopeful that he will recover fully before Super Eagles first group game against Egypt on January 11.
