It was a masterclass performance from Nigeria U17 female side, Flamingos as they booked a third round berth in the FIFA World Cup qualifying series.

The girls defeated Congolese side 5-0 in the second leg played on Saturday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo State.

It will be recalled the Flamingos had defeated their opponents 3-0 in the first leg last weekend.

As early as the 5th minute, Opeyemi Ajakaye opened the scoring for the Flamingoes to break the resolve of the visitors for a comeback.

Nine minutes later, Ajakaye further broke their hearts to score her brace as a crumbled defence fell once again.

In what was certainly looking like a one-sided affair, Oluwatunmininu Adeshina netted the third of the match in the 23rd minute.

The girls were not stepping down their attacks as they sought more goals but were missing some clear chances which may give coach Bankole  Olowookere some headache as the first half ended 3-0.

He had complained prior to the game that his girls lacked precision regardless of their wins.

At the restart of the second half, the Nigerian side continued to torment their opponents and in the 62nd minute, Dah-Zossu sets up Atume Doosuur for the fourth goal.

Not satisfied with the scoreline, Taiwo Afolabi made it five for  Flamingoes in the 88th minute as the game ended 5-0.

Nigeria have now booked a date with the U-17 girls of Egypt in April. The final round of the qualifiers will be in May.

This year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup finals, the seventh edition since it was launched in New Zealand in 2008, will take place in India, 11th – 30th October.
