The minister of sports development, Sen John Enoh has revealed his determination to succeed in his task to develop Nigerian sports.

He made his declaration during an interactive session with stakeholders in the sports industry in Lagos.

The Minister emphasized that sports not only provides recreation but also offers opportunities for economic empowerment, job creation, security, and poverty alleviation.

Describing the meeting as a family gathering, Senator Enoh called on stakeholders, sports enthusiasts, and the media to partner with the present administration in developing the sector.

He stressed the significance of objective, balanced, and positive reportage by the media, recognizing their role in achieving growth and development in Nigerian sports.

The Minister expressed his commitment to consulting and collaborating with stakeholders, private and corporate organizations, to realize the government’s objective of repositioning the sports sector for economic growth and national development. He also mentioned his ongoing tour of sporting facilities across the country to assess their condition and determine the necessary steps for their restoration.

Senator Enoh emphasized the importance of grassroots sports development, stating that talent exists at that level. He assured that his focus extends to nurturing talent from the grassroots level to ensure a strong foundation for sports development in Nigeria.

The Minister concluded by reiterating his open-heartedness and dedication to the sector, highlighting his desire to work together with all stakeholders to achieve the shared goal of sports development in the country.

“We need to sit down, commit and agree on what we want to achieve with the various federations, and the best way to achieve these targets,” he said.

Enoh added that he will give attention to all sports and not only a selected few, as he would work towards achieving all targets of the administration.

“Due to my strong passion to succeed, it will do no good for me to take sides. I am approaching this job with an open mind and at all times, I will support the best. The interest of the nation must always come first

“I am Minister of Sports and not Minister of football or cricket or basketball,” he said.
