I don't regret my move to Inter Miami - Messi

Lionel Messi has admitted that he is pleased with his decision to snub Barcelona for MLS team Inter Miami.

The 35-year-old claimed he wanted full control over the decision and not for it to be left in the hands of others, as had been the case in 2021, after expressing his intention to transfer to the United States.

Despite Inter Miami finishing last in the standings, he does not regret his decision.

“I’m well. Initially, we had a different idea [than joining Inter Miami],” he told TVPublica in Argentina.

“We’re happy with the decision taken. I’m ready and eager to face this new challenge, this change. It was an important step but at the same time, I was aware of what it meant, of what I was doing.”

It will be recalled that Messi was heavily linked with a return to Barcelona, a club where he made his name.

But Messi, in an interview with Mundo Deportivo, explained that he did not want to inconvenience the LaLiga champions financially.

“I really wanted to return, I was very excited to be able to return, but, on the other hand, after having experienced what I experienced when I left, I didn’t want to be in the same situation again.

“Although I heard that La Liga had accepted my return and everything was fine, many other things also needed to happen.

“I heard that Barça needed to sell players and reduce salaries, I didn’t want to go through all of that.”

Several fans and well-wishers were shocked by his decision to go to the MLS but the Argentine superstar has made his decision and the rest of the world will be watching.

Heads up!
