Rohr lists four NPFL players for Cameroon friendly in Austria

I can only invite home based players if ….. Rohr

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed the only reason why he can invite home based players plying their trade in the domestic Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

According to the German coach, the home based players do not have the criteria to play for the senior team and he would only call a local player to the team if he is exceptional and plays better than his foreign legions.

Rohr has come under immense condemnations for not offering players based in Nigeria to fight for places on his team in the five years he has been in charge of the three-time Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

“Honestly, they don’t have the best conditions – play on synthetic pitches, the facilities are not good, they travel long distances.

“Of course I will invite local players if they were better than their foreign-based counterparts,” Rohr insisted.

“That’s why we invite younger players from the local league to encourage them and when we have friendlies, we test them.”

Rohr insisted that he has followed the local league along with his assistants as well as the NFF technical department.

He said the NPFL players have struggled because they do not work under the best conditions.

“Better conditions should be given these players.”

Home-based Eagles on July 4th lost 4-0 to Mexico in a friendly in USA.
