The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has asked the former President, Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engr Musa Kida to handover all the equipment and kits in his possession.
This was contained in letter dated November 9, 2021 and signed by Mrs Afolabi-Oluwayemi Olabisi, on behalf of the director of Federations and Elite Athletes Department (FEAD).
It will be recalled that the ministry revealed that it will take full charge of D’Tigers 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifying campaign as well as the participation of one of the nation’s clubs in the Basketball Africa League following the crisis in the basketball federation which led to the suspension of its election earlier scheduled for October 30.
The ministry further set up a four-man task force to oversee the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 African qualifiers scheduled to hold from November 22 to 30.
“I bring to you compliments from the Taskforce Managing the affairs of the Nigeria Basketball Federation. I write to inform you that the Nigerian Senior Men’s Team (D’Tigers) will be participating at the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifier in Benguela, Angola from 25th – 28th November, 2021, this championship will serve as qualifiers to the 2022 FIBA World Cup.
“In the light of the above, I have been directed to request you to hand over all the NBBF Sporting equipment/kits in your custody to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
“Please kindly note that your earlier action to this request will be appreciated in order to enable the Federation make adequate preparations for the championships,” the letter stated.
