Gombe United coach Aliyu Zubairu has expressed his displeasure after his team’s goal was disallowed during their 1-1 draw with Nasarawa United on Sunday at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.
He remarked that the disallowed goal should have elicited cheering, and that it was disheartening to learn that it was not counted.
Zubairu said, “The referee disallowed my team’s good goal by FIFA standards. Since the league started I have lost goals. I have commended the referees that they are doing well, but why will this referee disallow this goal? That is just my argument.”
While commenting on the net plan of the team, Zubairu added, “We will continue to work hard, at least a draw is better than losing.”
He also condemned the attitude of unruly supporters at the match venue, saying, “I think that is the duty of management to continue to enlighten them that they should be patient.
I’m sure the league management will do something about it because they usually send delegates to match venues. I’m sure the management will do something about it, especially when fans throw objects onto the field.”
Also speaking, coach of Nasarawa United Bala Nykiu commended the efforts of his players, adding that it would ensure an upward swing for his team.
“The referee has the reason for taking any decision. I was feeling that we had carried the day, so it seemed. The last matches we lost I’m sure out of the three, two should have been a draw.
“The result is important to me because we have played three matches and we didn’t get any point. We have one point now, and hopefully, we will step up.”
