Eto’o seeks Africa unity through 2021 AFCON

The President of the Cameroon Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o has expressed his optimism to see the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations being hosted by his country as an opportunity for African nations to unite.

Speaking during his welcome speech at the UNIFFAC General Assembly held in Douala

“Hosting AFCON not only brings world-class football to Cameroon, it’s also an opportunity to strengthen the bonds between our nations. I’m honoured to welcome the Central African Football Federations’ Union and look forward to working together to meet the expectations of our youth

“Allow me to express the hope that this work will lay the foundation for a new start of our sub-regional confederation. We have to change things to meet the expectations of our youth, we have a duty to create a new dynamic,” he said.

Speaking further, the former Barcelona player acknowledged the abundance of talents bit will need the right leadership for them to be harnessed well.

“We have what it takes to compete with the best. We have a large pool of talented players in Central Africa that other parts of the world envy. We all come from countries where football is a popular passion.

“We benefit from the support of public authorities convinced that football is a factor of unity and peace. It is therefore important to develop leadership and governance to revitalise the practice of out sport,” he said.
