NPFL preview: Enugu Rangers, Heartland brace for epic Oriental Derby as Remo Stars dare Insurance

Enugu Rangers on Sunday in Awka host fierce rivals Heartland FC in the famed Oriental Derby on MatchDay 7 of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League.

The hosts who have failed to record a clean sheet in their last six games, have the opportunity to keep a clean sheet against Heartland are the only team without a victory, staying in the 20th position.

The ‘Naze Millionaires’ are yet to defeat Rangers at home in their 10 meetings, with the best they got against the ‘Flying Antelopes’ being a draw in 2016. But with Rangers’ 100 per cent record at home, Heartland might wait a little longer for their first win of the season.

In other games, a resurgent Akwa United will target a win against Plateau United in Eket after a hard-fought win over Gombe United last week Wednesday while Gombe United and Doma United will be facing each other in the top-flight league. With both teams playing in the same state, the derby game should be spectacular as Gombe United and Doma battle for supremacy.

Remo Stars will look to build on their strong performance against Shooting Stars when they face Bendel Insurance in Benin.

Last season, both teams weighed their options, and the Benin Gunners gained four points in the doubleheader before falling to the Remo Stars for the first time in the Super Six tournament.

So far this season, Remo Stars are the only team to have picked up maximum points on the road, which should be a lift for them as they play Bendel Insurance, who were held to a barren draw by Akwa United last weekend.

Other games today will see Abia Warriors trade tackles with Katsina United as Enyimba hosts Kwara United. Rivers United will welcome Sunshine Stars as Niger Tornadoes take a trip to Ibadan for the clash with Shooting Stars.

Heads up!
