Impressive D’Tigers beat Serbia 81-53 in China Autumn Basketball Invitational tournament

D’Tigers, Nigeria’s basketball national team, showcased their remarkable form once again in the ongoing China-friendly basketball competition.

They secured a resounding victory over the Serbian team with a commanding scoreline of 81-53. This triumph comes on the heels of their impressive opening game win against Team USA, where they triumphed with a score of 75-70.

It’s worth noting that the Nigerian men’s senior basketball team embarked on a playing tour in China, departing Nigeria last Monday.

This tour, which will continue until October 20, serves as a valuable opportunity for the team to further hone their skills and gain international experience.

The journey to China follows their disappointment in failing to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics during a qualification series held in Lagos, Nigeria, back in August 2023.

However, the team’s participation in the tour of games in China is just one facet of the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s diverse range of development initiatives. These initiatives are skillfully overseen by the federation’s board, led by the esteemed Musa Ahmadu-Kida.

The China Autumn Tour, which is an all-expenses paid tournament by the organisers in China, serves as a morale booster for the players in both the local league and from other leagues around the world after returning from the self-imposed ban by the Federal Government last year.

In May 2022, the sports ministry, with the approval of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, withdrew Nigeria from all international basketball competitions for a period of two years and set up an Interim Management Committee following the lingering leadership rift in the Nigeria Basketball Federation and players agitations for better welfare packages and treatment.
