I was moved to tears when I hugged my father - Davide Ancelotti

Davide Ancelotti has admitted the hug with his father Carlo after Real Madrid’s win over Manchester City moved them to tears as it was on the day of his mother’s birthday, who died last year.

Davide Ancelotti has been his father’s assistant for many years and was the first person Carletto hugged after the final whistle of the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals between Real Madrid and Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The Merengues had just completed one of the most memorable comebacks in the history of the game, scoring twice in the stoppages through Rodrygo and winning the game thanks to a Karim Benzema penalty in extra time. After the final whistle, Ancelotti and his son struggled to fight back the tears in an emotional hug.

“We were moved to tears at the end of the game because of a personal matter. It was a special day, my mother’s birthday, so it was a very touching end for both,” Davide said, as quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Ancelotti divorced his first wife and Davide’s mother Luisa Gibellini after 25 years of marriage in 2010. She died on May 24, 2021, after an illness. In 2014, Ancelotti married Mariann Barrena McClay in Canada.
