An Osun-based sports organisation, Macjey says it is going to organise a cross-country race for secondary school students in Osun on May 27 to mark the 2021 International Children’s Day.
The Chief Executive Officer of Macjey, Yinka Ogunkeye, in a statement on Friday in Osogbo, said the race would be organised in partnership with Gold FM of Ilesa.
The CEO also explained that the cross-country race would enable talents to be discovered in the state, while the discovered talents/athletes would also be nurtured to stardom.
Ogunkeye, who initiated the recently-held Ijesa Grand Marathon, said the race would afford the organisers the opportunity of engaging youths in the state and also addressing their challenges.
He added that Macjey and Gold FM expected sports sponsors and enthusiasts to be on ground during the Children’s Day sports event.
Ogunkeye said this was with the aim of identifying talented racers/athletes and catching them young.
“We (Gold FM and Macjey) decided to organise this Children’s Day Cross-Country Race for secondary schools’ boys and girls.
“The motive behind this initiative is to create an atmosphere of love, unity and peaceful co-existence among the youths.
”As we all know that sports is a tool for socio-economic growth, this event will arouse career prospect from the cradle.
“It’s a ‘Catch Them Young’ approach that will help in discovering talents, getting youths involved in constructive activities and encouraging self-discipline, self-reliance, among other noble virtues.
“This cross-country race that will be held on Thursday will create a forum that will alert youths about the dangers of living dishonourable life and encourage morally-sound foundation for them,” he added.
