Celtics knock out champions Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks, the defending NBA champions, were knocked out of the playoffs after a crushing loss to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

The Celtics won game seven 109-81 at home to go to the Eastern Conference finals, where they will meet the Miami Heat.

For Boston, Grant Williams scored 27 points, including seven three-pointers, while Jayson Tatum added 23.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks in scoring with 25 points.

After leading the Bucks to a 26-20 lead after the first quarter, the two-time former MVP cooled off as the Celtics raced away.

Boston made 22 of their 55 three-point tries, while Milwaukee only made four of their 33 attempts.

The Celtics, who have a joint-record 17 NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers, are in the conference finals for the fourth time in six years, looking for their first crown since 2008.

The Dallas Mavericks advanced to the Western Conference finals with a 123-90 victory against the Phoenix Suns in Sunday’s other game-seven matchup.

Luka Doncic led the team with 35 points and 10 rebounds, with Spencer Dinwiddie adding 30 points and Jalen Brunson adding 24.

The Suns were the early favorites to win the NBA title in 2022.

“I don’t know what to say but this was an amazing team win,” said Slovenia’s Doncic. “Everybody was locked in, everybody was playing as hard as they can. We didn’t take one play off.

“This is an incredible team win.”

Dallas will face the third-seeded Golden State Warriors in the conference finals. Game one is in San Francisco on Wednesday.
