Calvin Bassey makes UEFA Europe League Team of the season

Calvin Bassey, a defender for the Super Eagles, has been nominated to the UEFA Europa League squad of the season for the 2021/22 season, thesportsbay.com reports.

On Friday, the ultimate team was revealed via the UEFA Europa League’s Twitter account.

Bassey was outstanding for Ranger FC during their run to the Europa League final, appearing in 14 games at the heart of the defensive.

The 22-year-old was also the standout performance for Rangers in the final, where they lost 5-4 on penalties against Eintracht Frankfurt of Germany after a 1-1 draw and extra time.

The technical observer panel for the 2021/22 Europa League season named the team of the season.

Bassey is assigned to the left side of a three-man 3-4-3 defense.

Along with West Ham’s Craig Dawson and Frankfurt’s Martin Hinteregger, he completes the trinity of rearguards.

Rangers’ James Tavernier, Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer, West Ham’s Declan Rice, and Frankfurt’s Filip Kosti make up the midfield.

Christopher Nkunku of Leipzig, Rafael Borré of Frankfurt, and Ryan Kent round out the attack, with Kevin Trapp filling in at goalie.

Bassey made his Super Eagles debut against Ghana in the first leg of the Qatar 2022 World Cup playoff, which Nigeria lost on aggregate.
