Nigeria’s representative in CAF Confederation Cup, Rivers United have been promised N2m if they defeat Bloemfontein Celtic in the first leg of their first round tie on Wednesday in South Africa by the owner of Nigeria National League (NNL) side Go Round FC Felix Obuah.
The Pride of Rivers are already in the Rainbow nation for Wednesday’s tie against Siwelele at the Dr. Petrus Molemela stadium, with aggregate winners advancing to the playoff stage of the competition.
Should the match end in a draw, the former People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairman in Rivers State has also pledged One Million Naira (N1m) to Stanley Eguma’s men, with an additional Two Hundred Thousand Naira (N200,000) for each goal they score against Celtic, the club said in a statement.
Rivers United, just like Celtic, needed the lottery of penalties to see off debutants Futuro Kings of Equatorial Guinea in the previous round of the competition.
Eguma’s men beat the Equatoguineans 2-0 via penalties after aggregate scoreline stood at 3-3, while John Maduka’s side eliminated AS Maniema Union of the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-2 (2-2agg.) during the shootout.
Meanwhile, Rivers United have trained at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium which will host the Bloemfontein Celtic vs Rivers United match on Wednesday.
The team is also scheduled to train again here at this venue on Tuesday at 6pm SA time (5pm NIG time) according to the club’s media officer, Mayuku Charles.
