Buhari approves 3-bedroom flats for 1994 victorious Super Eagles after 27 years

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the allocation of 3-bedroom houses to the Super Eagles squad that won the African Cup of Nations in Tunis, Tunisia, in 1994, in fulfillment of a promise by the Federal Government.

A presidential aide, Garba Shehu, said following a memo by the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, President Buhari approved the allocations in their states of preference.

Shehu, in a statement issued on Thursday, noted that six players and three technical crew members had received their houses.

The new beneficiaries according to the statement are: Peter Rufai, Alloy Agu, Ike Shorounmu, Uche Okechukwu, Samson Siasia, Efan Ekoku, Sunday Oliseh, Benedict Iroha, Isaac Semitoje, Mutiu Adepoju, Emmanuel Amunike, Victor Ikpeba, Austin Eguavoen and Wilfred Agbonavbare (Deceased).

Others include Uche Okafor (deceased), Thompson Oliha (deceased), Stephen Keshi (deceased), Christian Chukwu, Dr Akin Amao, Stephen Edema, Col. A Asielue and B. Aromasodun.

It will be recalled that Dutchman, Clemence Westerhof led the Super Eagles to defeat Zambia 2-1 in the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations finals played at the Stade El Menzah in Tunis on April 10.

The then Green Eagles had won Nigeria’s first AFCON title on home soil in 1980.
