Former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has completed his big-money move to Saudi side Al Ittihad and the 35-year-old opened up on the reasons behind his move.
“Al Ittihad is a new challenge for me. It’s a good league and there are many good players.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is already here, he is a friend who shows that Saudi Arabia is starting to get ahead and I am here to win as I did in Europe,” Benzema said.
The Ballon D’Or winner will reportedly earn a mind-boggling €200m annually with Al-Ittihad and has signed a two-year contract with the option of a further year.
The French international spent 14 years at Madrid and made 647 appearances, scored 353 goals and provided 165 assists.
On Sunday night, Karim Benzema made his final appearance for Los Blancos and scored with his final touch in a 1-1 tie with Athletic Club at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The Madrid forward waved goodbye to the Madrid faithful on the last day of the season and has flown to Saudi Arabia to begin a new journey.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid has already started looking for possible replacements for their captain and have set sight on Napoli forward Victor Osimhen and Tottenham striker Harry Kane.
