Bendel Insurance won their first league game in six weeks on Saturday, defeating El-Kanemi Warriors 2-1 in 2022/23 Nigeria Premier Football League Match Day 15.
Prior to this encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the Benin Arsenal had drawn their previous five games but remained unbeaten in Group A of the league.
They had drew 1-1 with Enyimba, Akwa United, Plateau United, Bendel Insurance, and Remo Stars before returning to winning ways against El-Kanemi Warriors, who had only won one of their previous ten matches.
The first half finished goalless, but the home team ramped up the heat on their visitors, scoring two quick goals to put the home side in command.
On 54 minutes, Ismael Seriki headed them ahead, and on 58 minutes, replacement Austine Ogunye doubled their lead.
Muhammed Hussaini scored from the penalty spot in the 69th minute to cut the margin to 2-1.
The away side, who are comfortably sitting at the bottom of the table, attempted to earn a draw but were unable to do so as Insurance made it a double over them this season.
Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes host Abia Warriors on Sunday, while Nasarawa United go to Plateau United. Sunshine Stars will try to shine brighter when Lobi Stars visits, while Doma United will take on Bayelsa United in Gombe.
Enyimba will battle tackles with Remo Stars in other games, while Gombe United will try to shoot down Shooting Stars.
The meeting between Wikki Tourists and Rivers United has been rescheduled owing to Rivers United’s CAF Confederation Cup match against Young Africans on Sunday.
