Beautiful football doesn’t win games these days – John Ogu

Super Eagles midfielder, Ugochukwu John Ogu has declared that games are not won these days just by playing beautiful football.

He stated this on twitter in response to fans asking him to tell his team mates to play beautiful football and get the maximum points against Cape Verde in Tuesday’s make or mar Group C clash of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifying African series at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

“Alot be tagging me asking for the @NGSuperEagles to play that whole beautiful football to win games. Listen y’all, beautiful football don’t win games this days. Winning games is the real deal. Y’all support the team and the Manager. Big game coming on Tuesday before playoff.

Pray for the team to win against Cape Verde. No noise, we will be victorious. Wishing the team all the best on Tuesday, “he wrote on twitter.

Although he is not retired, Ogu has not played for Nigeria since winning the bronze with the team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and he recently took part in the Super Eagles training after their disappointing loss to the Central African Republic.

Victory or draw against the Sharks will send 12-pointer Eagles into the knockout round, with the visitors, who are on 10, needing to win to make progress at Nigeria’s expense.

Captain Ahmed Musa has assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles are matured, professional and ambitious enough to deal with any pressure as they seek to qualify for the World Cup.

Nigeria has participated in all FIFA World Cup final tournaments since its debut in 1994 in the United States of America, bar the 2006 finals in Germany that she missed narrowly after FIFA opted to use the head-to-head rule in the qualifying campaign, which favoured Angola.

The final round of the African qualifying series will hold in March 2022
