Nottingham Forest striker, Taiwo Awoniyi is over the moon after he was awarded his first-ever Premier League Man of the Match Award.
Awoniyi played a starring role against a below-par Chelsea side as Nottingham Forest gave its Premier League survival hopes a boost with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, whose troubles on the road continued.
Forest has beaten Liverpool and Tottenham at the City Ground this season and produced an impressive performance against the 2021 European champion.
After falling behind to Raheem Sterling’s opener for Chelsea against the run of play, the hosts put in a fine second-half display which was rewarded with Serge Aurier’s equalizer just after the hour mark.
Forest arguably deserved to win as Morgan Gibbs-White hit the crossbar, but this will give Steve Cooper’s team great encouragement in its bid to beat the drop this season.
Chelsea did at least avoid a fourth straight away defeat but will require huge improvement to close the seven-point gap on the top four.
The Super Eagles striker made this known via his verified twitter handle yesterday saying he was thankful for his award but sad his team didn’t win the game
“Thankful to have gotten my first ever premier league MOTM award but also disappointed a spirited performance from the team didn’t end with three points. We keep pushing,” he tweeted.
Forest will seek to move away from relegation zone when they visit Southampton at St Mary Stadium on Wednesday.
