True to the words of the manager, Abdul Maikaba, Nigeria representative in the CAF Confederation Cup, Akwa United has overturned the 2-1 deficit and qualified for the next round of the CAF competition after defeating Banjul Hawks of Gambia by 2-0 at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.
Akwa United who lost the first leg of the match at Uyo to Hawks Fc by 2-1 took the battle to the Gambia and in the 36 minutes when Cyril Olisema calmly beat Hawks goalkeeper, Gassama to put us the ahead with aggregate 2-2.
The first half ended with Akwa United dominating the game and Olisema scored the opener for the visitors.
Olisema got his second goal of the match in ten seconds after the start of the second half. He had stole the ball from a Hawks player and fired a long range that caught the home team’s goalkeeper unaware to extend the lead for the visiting Akwa United.
First leg consolation goal scorer, Mbaoma could have made it 3 for the visitors when he got the ball into the net in the seventy fourth minute but his goal was ruled offside by the referee.
The Gambian club started the game defensively but finds it difficult to penetrate the defense line of Akwa United as the visitor continue to have a free day in the game blowing away so many chances that could have led to more goals.
With the game ended in 0-2 and aggregate of 2-3, Akwa United progress to the next round of the competition.
